Experience
I have ten years experience of teaching in Higher Education, and working with Further Education students progressing to further study. I teach general business, management and marketing, though my subject expertise is around the management of tourism, events and hospitality businesses, together with the broader service sector and retail. I also teach Research Methods, Academic and Study Skills and supervise Dissertations. I am Head of Department within a large UK University Business School. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and specialise in teaching business, management and marketing. My academic background is focused on management within the leisure and service sectors, and my PhD is within Tourism. Prior to entering academia I gained experience in the public, private and voluntary sectors within tourism, hospitality and events management, including senior management roles with The National Trust and University of Derby as Tourism Projects Manager overseeing a range of EU funded business support projects. I have also worked as a freelance Tourism and Events Consultant working with a number of high profile clients across the UK. I am a member of the Tourism Management Institute, The Institute for Travel and Tourism and The Tourism Society. I have presented my research at international conferences and I have published widely in both journals and books, being the editor and author of several books and book chapters.
